I know that we are not alone in this "December to Remember." Our winter began with an ice storm that cut power to over 1,000,000 customers throughout New England. We had been in Worcester that night for a "Christmas Celtic Sojourn" (very fun and festive) and began our drive home in the pouring rain. About half way home, we began noticing the lack of street lights, closed gas stations, and then, the closed and dark Super
Walmart (the first sign of true trouble)! Thick ice had covered the trees and grass and branches were already beginning to snap and break, breaking power wires with them. When we got to mom's house, it was without power and remained so for about three days. Our neighborhood was spared from power outages; we felt fortunate to be warm and to have hot water (which we shared with friends from a neighboring town). This morning there was an announcement on the radio that finally power will be returned to all residents in the state - 12 days without power for some.
As many of you experienced, the next December event was a three day snow storm. Using the now standard Humbert scale, our measurements suggest over 18 inches of snow accumulated since Friday night. These pictures were taken Sunday afternoon before several more inches of snow fell. Luckily for the work crew, it was a light, powdery snow.
We took advantage of the powdery snow and walked over to the lake near mom's house on Sunday. By the time we got to the lake, it was somewhat reminiscent of the weather reports with that poor reporter (and camera person) being stuck out in the elements. Nonetheless, a little bit of winter exercise is always a good thing.

Hmmm, the Humbert scale might have to include the Jeroboam and Nebuchadnezzar sizes!
Great photos, Deb. And seeing Dan do the chicken dance while wearing snowshoes -- he would be right at home with Egglebert and Tweedledum!
